New Hair Clip, Anyone? {A Flexi-Clip Review and Giveaway}

When I first started seeing Lilla Rose Flexi-Clips popping up on different blogs about a year or so ago, I’ve got to be 100% honest with you…I didn’t want one! I didn’t think I really would use it, and I was perfectly happy with just my regular old pony tail holders.

So when Sue Ellen contacted me a few months ago about reviewing a Flexi-Clip for her, I thought, “Sure, why not?”.  But I didn’t have high hope that I would exactly fall in love with the thing. ;)

Fast forward several months, and I’ve done exactly that…I’ve fallen in love with it!

This is the clip I chose. It's called "Simple Band"

Why I Didn’t Think I Would Like the Flexi-Clip

  • I thought it was just a glorified barrette.
  • I thought it would sit in my drawer never to be used.
  • I didn’t think they were my style.
  • I thought they would be hard to use.
  • Why do I need one, when I have several pony tail holders that do the job just fine?
  • I thought they looked uncomfortable.

But wow, was I proved wrong…

Why I DO Indeed Like the Flexi-Clip

  • You can do SO many different hairstyles with this one simple clip.
  • I find myself using it ALL the time!
  • After looking through the online catalog, I realized that they actually have several clips that are just my style.  They really are beautiful!
  • They are so easy to use.  For real.  If I can use them effortlessly, than anyone can!
  • They make a simple “pony-tail” look so pretty!
  • They’re actually more comfortable that a pony tail holder.  They really do “flex” around you’re hair and don’t pull or pinch at all.  I find myself wearing mine even on days when I’m just cleaning and working around the house because it is SO comfortable to wear.

My hair in my beloved Flexi-Clip. (By the way, it's not the easiest thing to take a picture of the back of your own head! Haha! Try it sometime!)

So, all that to say that I would recommend Flexi-Clips to anyone.  Even if you don’t think that it’s you’re thing, I bet that you will be surprised how much you end up using it and loving it!  I wear mine all the time and can’t wait to purchase some more!

Simple Scrubs to Make and Give: A Review and a Giveaway

imageWhen I found out that my friend, Stacy from A Delightful Home, was coming out with an ebook about making your own luxurious body scrubs, I must say…I was EXCITED!

If you’ve never visited Stacy’s blog before then you really should go take a look around.  She is a sweet and wise woman who obviously loves her God and her family very much.  She is practically an expert on homemade, natural body care.  Plus, she makes GOOD food!  Any recipe I’ve ever made of hers always turns out great.  These Chocolate Coconut Oat Bars on her site are one of our favorite treats – they are amazing!

Okay, so now that you know how much I adore Stacy and her blog, I must also tell you that I absolutely adore her new book as well!  Simple Scrubs to Make and Give has thorough yet easy instructions for making over 30 different body scrubs.  The book is 59 pages long and is a wealth of information on making your own body scrubs with simple ingredients.

I’ve tried several of the recipes in Simple Scrubs, and they left my skin feeling so soft and smooth.  The Brown Sugar Vanilla Body Scrub has been my absolute favorite so far.  It only has four ingredients, and it. smells. heavenly.

Some of the other scrub recipes that you will find in the book include:

  • Invigorating Foot Scrub
  • Morning Coffee Body Scrub
  • Lemon-Lime Sugar Scrub
  • Lavender-Peppermint Facial Smoother

I can’t wait to try them all!  They would truly make great gifts, and Stacy also includes a whole section on packaging ideas.  I love it!

Another section included in Simple Scrubs is a very informative run-down of the ingredients used in this book.  This is actually one of my favorite parts of the book.  Not only does Stacy include awesome recipes that she has created, but she also teaches you and gives you the knowledge you need to come up with your own unique recipes as well.

If you are interested in learning how to make your own body scrubs to use yourself and to give as lovely gifts, you can purchase the book for only $3.99!  Click here to see an entire list of the table of contents, read more about the book, and purchase a copy for yourself.

Stacy has also generously offered to give away a copy of her book to one of you!

Homemade Moisturizing Body Scrub

I am so excited about what I am going to share with you today!  I have recently been exploring the yummy world of natural skin and beauty care.  I say “yummy” because most of the things that I have been experimenting with have included using edible ingredients.  For instance, did you know that you can use raw honey to wash your face?  And it works GREAT!  Especially if you follow it up with this facial toner of one part water and one part lavender vinegar.  My skin is feeling and looking better than it ever has!  And I’ve been spending less money also – so it’s definitely a win-win!

Out of all the natural skin care experiments that I have tried, this Homemade Moisturizing Body Scrub that I am going to share with you today is probably my absolute favorite!  It leaves your skin feeling SOFT and SMOOTH like you’ve never experienced before!  (At least like I had never experienced before! Smile)  It is meant to be used in the shower, and you honestly don’t even need to use any moisturizer when you get out.  You will absolutely be glowing!

I’m sharing all the details of how to make your own Homemade Moisturizing Body Scrub (with only four simple ingredients!) over at A Delightful Home.

Click here to read the whole post, and while you’re there check out some more of Stacy’s great blog.  She has a lot of great ideas for homemade body products and delicious, simple recipes, as well as a wonderful series on Becoming a Better Mother.  I hope you will check them all out!

Vinegar Facial Toner

Did you know that you can use vinegar as a facial toner?  It is 100% natural, very frugal, and it works great!  I have been using a solution of 1 part of my lavender vinegar to 1 part water on my face every night before I go to bed, and I have noticed a significant improvement in my skin’s appearance!  It has evened out my skin tone, minimized the size of my pores, smoothed out my skin’s texture, and regulated my skin’s oil production.  I love it!

You can also use just plain white vinegar, or raw apple cider vinegar, but this lavender vinegar is definitely my favorite!  It works really well, plus it has a wonderful smell.  I can’t really say the same for the raw apple cider vinegar!

To use, I simply dip a cotton ball into a small ball jar that contains 1 part lavender vinegar/1part water (which I just keep on my bathroom sink.)  I then just rub the wet cotton ball all over my face and let it air dry.  I have been doing this every night after I wash my face with raw honey (which is also wonderful by the way!  For more information on this check out this Honey Face Wash Challenge at Crunchy Betty.  She has tons of great tips and ideas for natural beauty care if you’re interested in this topic!)

If you would like to try this Vinegar Facial Toner, keep in mind that everyone’s skin is different.  That’s what’s really great about this though – it is highly customizable!  I have fairly normal skin, so I have had success with a 1:1 ratio of vinegar to water.  For other skin types follow the general guidelines below.

  • Sensitive skin – 1:5 ratio of vinegar to water
  • Dry skin -  2:5 ratio of vinegar to water
  • Normal skin – 1:1 ratio of vinegar to water
  • Oily skin – 4:2 ratio of vinegar to water

These are just suggestions. Feel free to adjust the amounts according to your skin’s specific needs.  Basically, the more oily your skin, the more vinegar you should use.  So if your face still seems oily after using, you could try adding more vinegar.  On the flip side, if you vinegar toner seems to be a little drying for your skin, add a little more water.  I do usually finish my routine with a small amount of coconut oil as a moisturizer, and my skin feels amazing when I am done!

So if you are looking for an all-natural, very frugal way to even out your skin’s tone and appearance, give this a try. I think that you will love it!
